Visit a Roman Camp

Sunday 28 & Monday 29 May

You may encounter an unusual addition at Ryedale Folk Museum if you visit this Bank Holiday weekend – on Sunday 28 and Monday 29 May you can visit a Roman Camp!  The camp will reflect different periods of Roman history, from the early legionary period through to the 3rd century and finally the era of Constantine, when the Roman soldiers were all Christian.  There will be displays of Roman crafts, including chainmail making, as well as the chance to see and learn about a soldier’s marching kit.

You can also find out more about the Romans’ use of bows and javelins in battle during the Missile Display at 2pm (lasts approx. 30 minutes) each day.

Normal admission charges to the Museum apply, or visit for free if you have a Ryedale Folk Museum Annual Pass.  Open 10am-5pm.  Wheelchair accessible.  Dogs on leads welcome.
